The Hannibal Cavemen open the second half of the 2015 Prospect League season with a 6-5 loss in ten innings to the Springfield Sliders at Clemens Field Wednesday night.

Hannibal took an early lead, scoring two in the second on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Josh Griffith and an RBI single by catcher Tyler Niemann.

The Sliders scored single runs in the third and fourth to tie the score. The Cavemen retook the lead with two more in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Niemann and a sacrifice fly by center fielder Justin Blechle.

Springfield scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Hannibal tied the game in the seventh on a run-scoring double by left fielder Emilio Lollio.

The Sliders pushed across an unearned run in the top of the tenth and held the Cavemen scoreless in the bottom of the tenth to hang on for a 6-5 win.

Brendan Kleekamp pitched the tenth and took the loss for Hannibal.

The Cavemen are on the road the next two nights, taking on the Dans in Danville Thursday and Friday nights. The next games at Clemens Field are Saturday and Sunday nights against Terre Haute.
