The Hannibal Cavemen's habit of battling back continued Sunday night, but they let one get away in the late innings, losing to the Rex in Terre Haute 6-4.

After the Rex plated a run in the first, Hannibal tied the game in the third on an RBI double by second baseman Joseph Collazo. Terre Haute retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the third.

The Cavemen took the lead in the fifth on a two-run homer by third baseman Austin Siener, but the Rex tied it at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Hannibal took a 4-3 lead in the eighth on a run-scoring double by left fielder Wyatt Champlin.

Cavemen pitcher Nick Burns had reached his pitch limit after seven innings, so Ryan Furtney came out of the bullpen. He was not able to hold the Rex, as they scored three runs with two outs on a walk and three singles.

The loss drops the Cavemen's record to 7-15. After a day off Monday, Hannibal is home to face the Danville Dans Tuesday and the Quincy Gems Wednesday. Both games start at 6:38 p.m. If you can't attend, you can listen to the webcasts here.
