The Hannibal Cavemen rallied in the middle innings, but again came up short, losing to the Quincy Gems 9-4 Wednesday night at Clemens Field.

The Gems scored early with three in the first on a two-run homer by left fielder Mitch Carriger and an RBI single by first baseman Michael Nielsen.

Quincy scored twice more in the third on an RBI ground out by catcher C.J. Schaeffer and a run-scoring single by right fielder Houston Looser.

Hannibal bounced back in the fourth, sending nine men to the plate and scoring four times, making it a one-run game. The Cavemen scored on doubles by right fielder Nicco Lollio and first baseman Jonathon Hallman, a sacrifice fly by shortstop Collin Luty and a single by center fielder Wyatt Champlin.

Hannibal ends the first half of the Prospect League season with a record of 8-22, while Quincy wins the first half in the West Division with an 18-13 record.
