On Saturday, July 4, the Hannibal Cannibal will celebrate its 20th running. The race, which began on July 6, 1996, has grown from just a 10k run in its first year to a multi-event race today. This year’s race will include a 5k/10k/15k run, which are USA Track and Field certified, a 5k leisure walk and a fun run for children 10 and under.

For several years, starting in 1997, the race offered a 5k competitive walk. The race, which is a fundraising event for Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation has grown from a few hundred participants the first year to over 2100 in 2013. Race Director, Angie Wilcoxson has a goal of exceeding 2200 participants this year.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the race, the Cannibal will offer its participants some new things this year. In the past 19 races, the participant shirts have always been white. This year, the race shirts will be a red performance tee. In addition this year, each participant will receive a custom finisher’s medal. The race also awards overall finisher trophies and plaques as well as age category medals.
