Beautiful weather greeted the participants of the 20th annual Hannibal Cannibal on Saturday, July 4. Over 2,000 participants enjoyed the 5/10/15k runs, 5k walk and Fun Run.

As the starting cannon went off at 7:00 am, runners and walkers took off along the scenic route through downtown Hannibal and out Highway 79. Along the way they were cheered on by volunteers at water stations manned by team members from Hannibal Regional Healthcare System’s James E. Cary Cancer Center, Medical Group, Emergency Department and Nursing Department. Volunteers from the Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary and other hospital departments met the participants at the finish line with wet towels and water and each finisher received a commemorative finishers medal.

All together, the Cannibal and Fun Run raised nearly $58,000, with over $55,000 benefiting the Legacy Campaign, which is raising funds for our endowment. This endowment is a key resource for funding important projects and services in the future. Angie Wilcoxson, Race Director stated, “It is such an amazing sight to see the mass of runners take off down Main Street. For a community the size of Hannibal, I’m really pleased to have 2,037 participants. I’m so thankful to everyone who came out to participate. We offer a special thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors.”
