The Hannibal Board of Public Works Tuesday voted to raise the water rate of its largest customer.

The board voted unanimously to raise the rate it charges the Public Water Supply District #1 of Ralls County.

The rate hike comes amid discussions by the PWSD#1 board about the possibility of building its own water plant.

The proposed raise in rates would increase the rate for all water resale from $3.94 to $4.75 per one thousand gallons, which equals what BPW customers in Hannibal are paying.

If there are no other discussions between the BPW and the PWSD#1, the new rate would take effect November 22nd.
