The Hannibal Board of Public Works hosts an open forum and public meeting on an impending rate increase Tuesday, May 20.

Last August, city voters approved the issuing of $20 million in bonds to allow BPW to deal with new mandates by the EPA and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, as well as updating its electric transmission, water and sewer systems.

The BPW board proposes raising rates 5% for electric and water customers and 5.5% for sewer customers.

The purpose of the public hearing is to give its customers a chance to come and ask questions about rate increases and system improvements.

The meeting takes place at the Board of Public Works building at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 20.
