Many of us immediately think of the Fourth of July whenever we think of summer. Some of our best summertime memories were made while celebrating Independence Day. Here is a look at some of the fun upcoming events taking place around the Quincy/Hannibal area this Fourth of July Weekend.

  • Fireworks

    Independence Day wouldn't be Independence Day without fireworks. There will be several opportunities to see fireworks around the area during Fourth of July Weekend. The fireworks display in Quincy will again be at the Illinois Veterans Home on July 4. Hannibal will shoot off fireworks July 4 over the river. The Quincy Gems will have fireworks on July 3, and the Mark Twain Lake Rodeo will also have a fireworks display.   • National Tom Sawyer Days

    National Tom Sawyer Days 2015 is officially July 2-July 4, but armband night at the carnival will take place on Wednesday, July 1. The Pet Show, Mud Volleyball, and the opening of Tanyard Gardens takes place July 2. Arts and crafts at Central Park begins July 3. The parade, naming of the new Tom & Becky, and fireworks will be July 4.   • Jon Pardi Concert

    One of the highlights of National Tom Sawyer Days will be a concert from Capitol Records recording artist Jon Pardi on Friday, July 3. Tickets for the show are available online, or at the Hannibal and Palmyra County Market stores. General admission tickets are $20, VIP tickets are available online only, and are $45. Natalie Stovall and The Drive will open the show.

  • 4th of July Celebration - Camp Point

    Camp Point's 4th of July Celebration features a run/walk, sand volleyball tournament, washer tournament, food, little Mr. and Ms. contest, baby contest, live entertainment, and of course, fireworks! The 4th of July - Camp Point, Illinois Facebook page is a great resource for anyone interested in attending.

  • Quincy Gems and Hannibal Cavemen

    Local baseball fans in both Quincy and Hannibal will be able to enjoy home games over the holiday weekend. Quincy will host Danville July 2-3, and Springfield July4-5. There will be fireworks at QU Stadium following the July 3 game. The Hannibal Cavemen will play Danville at Clemens Field on July 4 and July 5.

  • Mark Twain Lake Rodeo

    The Mark Twain Lake Rodeo is celebrating its 29th year in 2015! The rodeo will take place July 2-July 4 at the Warren G. See South Spillway Recreation Area just below Clarence Cannon Dam. Rodeo events begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the gate. Kids 6 and under get in for free. A full list of ticket locations can be found here.

  • Hannibal Cannibal

    The Hannibal Cannibal has now been "eating up" runners for two decades, as the race will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2015! The 5/10/15K will take place the morning of Saturday, July 4. It is called the “Hannibal Cannibal” because the course requires participants to climb Lover’s Leap (the Cannibal). Over the past three years the Hannibal Cannibal has averaged over 1900 participants from all around the world.
