A fire chief says four children were killed in a condominium blaze in central Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks.

Osage Beach Fire Chief Jeff Dorhauer tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the victims of the fire reported about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the four-story unit were ages 4 and 5, as well as two 2-year-olds. Dorhauer says they were pronounced dead at a hospital and were believed to be related, perhaps cousins. Their names were not immediately released.

Dorhauer says a man who was staying in the condo managed to escape and tried to go back inside to rescue the children, but the heat and flames forced him out. Firefighters rescued two other adults uninjured.

He says state fire marshal investigators are trying to determine the fire's cause.
