Flood cleanup in Clarksville should be completed by later this week.

Prisoners helped remove sandbags from around buildings on Monday and they’ll be back to work again on Wednesday. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will take the bags to a private site for disposal.

The Mississippi River fell below flood stage late last week after cresting almost at its fifth-highest level in history just three weeks ago. Clarksville voted last month against seeking federal or state funding assistance to help with flood fighting. Volunteers and local residents built temporary levees to keep the water out.
