On this 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, organizers in Quincy get ready to host a weekend of activities for veterans and their families.

The annual Fishing for Freedom/Supporting our Troops event kicks off Friday with a fish fry at 4 p.m. and a concert fundraiser at the Dock in Quincy featuring the Aaron Stark Band.

Saturday features the HEROES Banquet at 5 p.m.

There will be a fishing tournament for the veterans on hand Sunday, with Clat Adams Bicentennial Park hosting a full day kid activities, food and drink and music.

The fishing tournament Sunday will take place at Pool 19 on the Mississippi and at Mark Twain Lake. As the boaters and warriors return to Quincy for weigh-in, there will be rally points set up for the public to show its appreciation. One will be on Highway 96 in Ursa at 12:45 p.m., the other will be along Highway 61 in Palmyra at 1:15 p.m.
