Fire damaged a multi family residence late last night at Eighth and Chestnut in Quincy.

Firefighters were called shortly after 11 p-m. Captain Mark Bigelow says the porch engulfed in flames as they arrived. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Occupants of the first floor escaped safely. Residents of a second floor apartment are in the process of moving and were not home. The Red Cross is assisting with shelter and other needs of the fire victims. Two pet cats died in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
