The call came in shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.  Officials believe the fire started around the 4th floor of the structure located at 4th and Jersey.  A total of 50 residents were evacuated.  Several residents escaped onto the roof area where they were rescued by firefighters using a ladder truck.

Employees and patrons of the Patio Restaurant on the ground floor were also evacuated. One person was reportedly taken to Blessing Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army were coordinating efforts to house those displaced by the fire.

The upper portion of the building was damaged by smoke and fire while the lower portion suffered water damage.  The cause remains under investigation.
