Fire Damages a Quincy Residence

A lit cigarette is the likely cause of a fire late Monday night at 930 ½ North 4th in Quincy.

Assistant Quincy Fire Chief James Pioch says the department was called to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. A man in the upstairs apartment escaped through a window onto the porch roof and was rescued as firefighters arrived.

Fire damage was confined to one room with smoke and water damage elsewhere in the house.
