A federal parolee suspected in a stabbing death earlier this month in west-central Illinois has been arrested in McHenry County, to the northwest of Chicago.

Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher L. Croom of Chicago was arrested Monday in Lake in the Hills with the help of U.S. Marshals.

He is wanted in the death of a man who was stabbed in Galesburg on Aug. 13 and died of his injuries four days later.

McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke tells The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald that when bystanders tried to help the victim, the assailant pulled a gun on them.

The newspaper reports that a handgun was recovered during Monday's arrest.

Croom was jailed in McHenry County pending extradition.

His bond on the murder charge is $1 million.
