A Hannibal man gets the maximum sentence allowed after pleading guilty to abusing a three month old child.

In a press release, Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton announces that 23 year old Eugene Melton was sentenced Thursday in Shelby County Circuit Court to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Melton pleaded guilty in July to felony child abuse.

Melton was accused of throwing, shaking and biting the infant, resulting in the child being hospitalized with a broken leg, bite marks and a brain bleed.
