A program that has been making kids across the country smile for many years continues to spread holiday cheer in the Hannibal area.

The annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is well underway, with donations of new, unwrapped toys being taken at a number of locations locally.

Drop-off bins for Toys for Tots can be found at Orscheln, People's Bank of Wyaconda and County Market in Canton, Dollar General and Shopko in Palmyra, and at the Dollar Generals in Oakwood and in the Huck Finn Shopping Center, Big Lots, Hannibal City Hall and Douglass Community Services in Hannibal.

At least 650 low-income children have qualified so far to get gifts from Toys for Tots.

All the toys and money collected in northeast Missouri stays in northeast Missouri.

There is a great need for items for both teenage boys and girls. Suggestions include board games, beth sets, hand-held electronic games, USB drives, athletic balls, advanced craft kits, hair dryers, wallets, radio alarm clocks, lava lamps, necklaces, watches, jewelry boxes, pen and journal sets and remote control cars.

If you'd like to hold a toy drive or make a financial contribution, call the RSVP office at 573-221-3892, extension 247.
