Authorities in southeast Missouri say a man tried to bring methamphetamine and three knives with him as he was being booked into county jail.

The Southeast Missourian reports 30-year-old John Groves was charged Wednesday with delivery of a knife into a jail and delivery of a controlled substance into a jail.

Scott County chief deputy Kenneth Kinder says Groves was arrested Saturday for having an outstanding warrant. Kinder says Groves told the deputy he didn't have any weapons or drugs. He says the deputy patted down Groves but didn't find any contraband during the arrest.

Groves is being held at the Scott County Jail on $2,500 bond. It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
