A cruise line has expressed interest in making Hannibal one of its stops during future Mississippi River excursions.

The Hannibal Courier-Post reports Viking Excursions has asked the city to agree to a docking commitment by May 1, even though the boats would not begin traversing the river for 2 years. The City plans to provide Viking a letter of intent while it explores potential docking options and cost of infrastructure improvements.

Officials say an agreement with the company could mean over 100 docking stops in Hannibal each year, bringing thousands of new visitors to town and a boost to the local economy.
