After four days of trying, a 3-foot-long Nile crocodile is finally captured from a pond in west St. Louis County.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Rottler Pest and Lawn Solutions received a call Thursday about the animal seen swimming in a condominium complex pond. It proved to be hard to catch.

Finally, the pest experts baited a hook with chicken gizzard. The crocodile was found hooked on Monday, still very much alive.

It is unclear how the African species, which can grow to 16 feet long and weigh 500 pounds, ended up in suburban St. Louis, but the consensus is it was a pet that grew too big and was dumped.

The crocodile is expected to be taken to a refuge in South Carolina.
