A northeast Missouri coroner says a lawyer was shot seven times and her husband was shot once in an apparent murder-suicide at their home near Kirksville.

Authorities were called around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to the home of 33-year-old Kristen "Kadie" Campbell Johnson and 36-year-old Riley Johnson. Officers found the couple dead, while the couple's three young children and two other adults in the house were unharmed.

The Kirksville Daily Express reports Adair County Coroner Brian Noe said Wednesday preliminary autopsies indicate Riley Johnson shot his wife, then shot himself in the head.

Adair County Sheriff Robert Hardwick says the circumstances are still being investigated.

According to her obituary, Kadie Campbell Thompson had law offices in Kirksville, Milan and Unionville. She was also the Unionville city attorney.
