Road construction signs go up today as work starts on the US 54/Missouri 79 intersection in Louisiana Missouri.
Intersection improvement is the first part of work towards the new Champ Clark Bridge. Repaving, new sidewalks, striping and lighting are included in the work. MODOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner says a 12-foot lane restriction can be expected at times during the project. Groundbreaking ceremonies Friday morning formally marked the start of the bridge replacement project. The new bridge will be just south of the existing bridge. The current Champ Clark Bridge will remain in use throughout the project. Work on the bridge itself starts later this year.
