Construction has begun on a nearly hundred mile northeast Missouri electric transmission line.

Ground was broken last week by Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois on the Mark Twain Transmission Project.

The groundbreaking took place at the Zachary Substation adjacent to the existing substation in Adair County.

The construction of the 96 mile, 345,000 volt transmission line and substation is expected to bolster energy reliability for the region.

The new lines will run through Adair, Knox, Lewis, Marion and Schuyler counties.
