(CLARKSVILLE) -- A preliminary hearing is October 9 for a Clarksville woman facing a felony charge of endangering the welfare of a child. 29-year-old Stephanie Hagaman is accused of leaving her two children at home alone while she went shopping in Saint Louis on August 16.

Authorities say the suspect told her seven-year-old and five-year-old children where to find a key they could use to let themselves in the house after returning from school.

The children reportedly locked themselves out of the house and went to a neighbor’s for help. State authorities took custody of the kids after their mother was arrested.

Hagaman was released on her own recognizance pending the October hearing.
