A Chicago man was arrested in Lewis County on drug related charges Saturday.

According to Sheriff David Parrish, his office was contacted last Wednesday by the County Market Pharmacy in Lewistown about a male subject calling in a fake prescription for a cough medicine containing codeine.

On Saturday, deputies were contacted by the County Market Pharmacy in Canton, reporting that an individual had arrived to pick up cough medicine with what they believed to be a fake prescription.

Canton Police and Lewis County Deputies made contact with a man and woman at the pharmacy. The woman told authorities she was an Uber driver and drove the man from Chicago to Canton.

Taken into custody was 57 year old Avis Garth of Chicago, charged with one count of fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance.
Garth is lodged in the Lewis County Jail on $10,000 bond.
