A man who accidentally shot himself in the thigh early Tuesday morning will face charges following the incident.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 3967 Highway P for a shooting incident. Sheriff Jimmy Shinn says initial information received was that the individual was shot by someone in the woods. Sheriff Shinn says officers recovered several bullet casings matching guns in possession of the shooting victim when authorities arrived.

The investigation found that the victim, David Robnett of Moberly, thought he heard someone outside and fired several rounds to scare anyone away. Sheriff Shinn says Robnett apparently slipped in the mud and accidentally shot himself in the thigh. Robnett was taken to Blessing Hospital for treatment.

Robnett is expected to be charged with felony possession of a hand gun and filing a false police report.
