(LOUISIANA)--  A new website allows you to join in the conversation about replacing the Highway 54 bridge at Louisiana. You can log on to www.champclarkbridge.com and watch a video about the proposal, discuss environmental and safety concerns, and offer recommendations on a location for the new bridge.

The website is tied in with plans for a public meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. November Eighth at the Twin Pike Family YMCA in Louisiana. The meeting is part of a two-year process that will be used by the Missouri Department of Transportation in deciding what type of bridge to build and a location.

The 84-year-old Champ Clark Bridge is one of the oldest and narrowest on the river between Minnesota and Tennessee.

An environmental study for a new bridge already is under way. Still to be answered are questions such as where the state will find 100 million dollars for the project, when construction could begin and whether the new span will be two-lane or four-lane.

The state says it will work hand-in-hand with the citizens’ group.
