The St. Louis Cardinals are back in the playoffs for the fifth straight year, and that's good news for the region's economy.

The St. Louis Regional Chamber says calculations show that each postseason game has an economic impact of $5.9 million. The playoffs generally bring in more out-of-town visitors who stay in hotels, shop and eat in restaurants. The additional games also mean more work for about 3,000 day-of-game employees at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals will open divisional series play Friday against the winner of the Chicago Cubs-Pittsburgh Pirates playoff game. Those two teams play Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
