The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals the results on recent testing of the water supply at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy for Legionella bacteria.

The CDC notified the Illinois Department of Public Health Thursday that 48 environmental samples were taken at the veterans’ home, and 47 of them came back negative.

The one positive sample was taken prior to passing through a showerhead which was equipped with a filter validated for the removal of legionella.
The CDC says that anyone using that shower would have been protected from exposure to legionella.

Since extensive measures were taken last year to stop the spread of Legionnaire’s Disease at the home, five residents and one employee of the veterans’ home have tested positive for Legionnaire’s Disease.
