CHICAGO (AP) - Randal Grichuk hit a grand slam that capped a six-run burst in the eighth inning. The St. Louis Cardinals stopped the Cubs' 11-game winning streak, beating Chicago 8-4 Saturday. After a run-scoring wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the eighth put the Cardinals ahead 4-2, Grichuk connected. Brandon Moss and Jedd Gyorko also homered for St. Louis.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Brian Dozier hit his 25th home run of the season and the 100th of his career, leading Tyler Duffey and the Minnesota Twins over the Kansas City Royals 5-3 Saturday night and ending a four-game losing streak. For the second time this season, the Twins homered three times off Royals starter Dillon Gee.

MIAMI (AP) - Catcher Dioner Navarro scored the go-ahead run on a strikeout, capping a bizarre eighth-inning comeback that helped the Chicago White Sox beat the Miami Marlins 8-7 Saturday night. The White Sox blew an early 4-0 lead and trailed 7-6 to start the eighth.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Trevone Boykin engineered a last-minute, 88-yard touchdown drive in four plays, lifting the Seattle Seahawks to a 17-16 victory Saturday over Kansas City. For the first 59 minutes, the Chiefs dominated, getting a touchdown drive from Alex Smith on their first possession and three field goals from Cairo Santos. Chiefs quarterback Nick Foles, signed after camp opened to perhaps provide experienced backup for Smith, completed half his eight passes for 37 yards.

 

Olympics:  More Gold for the US

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Michael Phelps wrapped up his 23rd career Olympic gold medal by putting the United States ahead to stay on the butterfly leg of the 4x100 medley relay. Ryan Murphy set a world record in the 100 backstroke during the relay, finishing in 51.85. Nathan Adrian pulled away on the freestyle to win in an Olympic-record time of 3 minutes, 27.95 seconds.

RIO PE JANEIRO (AP) - American Jeff Henderson took the Olympic long jump gold medal by overtaking Luvo Manyonga of South Africa by one centimeter on his last jump. There was gold earned in rowing as the U.S. women's eight won its third straight Olympic competition, finishing ahead of Britain and Romania. American swimmer Connor Jaeger came away with silver in the 1,500-meter freestyle, and Tori Bowie of the United States was a silver medalist in the women's 100 meters.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Britain beat the world-champion United States in the finals of the Olympic women's cycling team pursuit. Britain broke the world record while finishing about 2.2 seconds ahead of the Americans, who set the record earlier Saturday. The U.S. women's fencing team won the bronze, and Massachusetts native Genevra Stone captured a silver medal in the women's single sculls.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Venus Williams has guaranteed herself a fifth Olympic medal by teaming with Rajeev Ram to win their semifinal match in mixed doubles.
