The Knox County sheriff says more than 20 people passed out due to carbon monoxide poisoning during a weekend fish fry outside of the western Illinois village of Maquon.

The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reported Tuesday that the sheriff's department responded to a call after 7:30 p.m. Saturday reporting 20 ill adults and two ill juveniles ages 13 and 16. Patients were taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg and Iowa City for treatment. Those sickened were from Abdingdon, Galesburg, Gilson, Knoxville and Iowa.

The source of the carbon monoxide was under investigation.

Maquon is about 15 miles southeast of Galesburg.
