Home sales were up across Illinois by 17.3 percent in August compared with a year earlier, and the median price increased by 13.6 percent.

The Illinois Association of Realtors released the numbers in a report Thursday. Nearly 16,000 homes sold in August statewide. The state median price was $167,000.

In Chicago, there was a 22 percent climb in home sales for August compared to the previous year with 2,797 sales. The median price of a home in the city was $245,000, up more than 22 percent.

Year-over-year growth in home sales was reported in 52 of 102 Illinois counties.

Michael Oldenettel of the real estate group says the state's spring and summer selling season was "quite strong."
