A man accused of killing his son will remain behind bars for now.

A judge denied a bond reduction Wednesday for 45-year-old Michael Lee Phillips of Saint John. He’s charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of 22-year-old Jeffrey Chisholm on August 31 near Frankford.

The defendant had sought a reduction in his 200 thousand dollar cash-only bail.

Witnesses say the victim had been fighting with his father and other family members.
In a probable cause statement, Phillips allegedly told authorities that he had no other choice but to shoot his son.

A preliminary hearing was set for October 23.
