An Illinois woman whose remains were found in Pike County Missouri over a quarter-century ago has finally been identified.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the body of a white female was found by hikers in a secluded area on August 26th, 1990.

The Highway Patrol and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office had conducted a joint homicide investigation for several years.

Then, last July, the Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control was contacted by an individual who thought the woman might be the mother of an acquaintance.

Investigators were able to identify the woman as Cynthia Day.

The investigation into Day’s death now continues. Anyone with information is asked to call the DDCC at 636-300-2800 or the Pike County Sheriff’s Office at 573-324-3202.
