The good news is recycling continues to grow in Hannibal.  The bad news is..

. contents of recycle bins are spilling over onto the parking lot at Two Rivers Industries.

Executive Director Melonie McAfee told the Courier-Post the facility recycled twice as much material in the first quarter this year compared to last.

McAfee says a combination of more materials and a leaner work force accounts for the backlog.  Illegal dumping and inadequate preparation of recyclables have also slowed processing.

The facility located off Clinic Road employs individuals with disabilities to assist with the recycling.  Plans are underway to beef-up staffing levels.

The facility recycles paper, cardboard, plastics, metal cans, limited electronics, and clothing.  Hannibal residents currently pay a recycling fee of $1.90 a month on their BPW utility bills.  More information is available at www.2riversind.org.
