Benedictine University in Springfield Cancels Womens’ Basketball Season
Benedictine University in Springfield has decided to cancel the rest of its womens' basketball season because they don't have enough players.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that athletic director Nikki Bull-Eguez made the announcement Thursday in a news release on its website. The statement says Bull-Eguez and American Midwest Conference Commissioner Will Wolper made the decision Wednesday.
They say continuing with a limited number of players for the Bulldogs wouldn't be in the best interest of the school or the conference.
The school's men's program won't be affected. Bull-Eguez also was confident the Bulldog baseball and softball teams would be ready to play in the spring.
