Authorities are investigating a rural Monroe County home invasion early Thursday morning.

Monroe County Sheriff David Hoffman says the apparent home invasion happened about 12:30 a.m. Thursday at a residence just south of Madison.

Hoffman says two men entered the home, bound the residents with zip ties and made off with an undetermined amount of cash and two cellphones.

The men were armed and wore bandanas over their faces.

The two ditched the cell phones near the home and fled the scene.

The victims escaped with minor injuries.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is assisting deputies in the investigation.
