Arson Sentencing Today
(BOWLING GREEN A judge is scheduled today to sentence a man who set fire to a Louisiana home on Independence Day because his wife would not watch fireworks with him.
42-year-old Russell Ray Darnell of Bowling Green admitted to felony second degree arson for starting a fire in a home at Seventh and North Carolina streets on July Fourth of last year.
Crews were called to the scene just after the end of the annual fireworks show along the riverfront. There were no injuries.
Darnell told an officer that he set a blanket on fire in the living room of the residence, where his wife and children were living. Darnell told police he did so because his wife would not go watch fireworks with him or answer his telephone calls.
