A total of $26,500 in grant money was handed out Tuesday to 19 area non-profits from the Samantha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund with the Community Foundation Serving West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri.

The fund was set up in late 2000 to honor the memory of Samantha Otte, who died after a liver transplant.

Northeast Missouri non-profits benefiting from this round of Sammy Fund grants include Bluff City Theater for their Youth Education in Theater initiative and Douglass Community Services in support of the Kids in Motion and Teens in Motion programs.

Since it was established 17 years ago, more than $335,000 in Sammy Fund grants have been awarded.
