A hundred Illinois fire departments and non-profit ambulance services, including seven in western Illinois, benefit from a portion of over $2 million in fire safety grants.

The office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and Governor Bruce Rauner Tuesday announced the recipients of money from the Small Equipment Grant Program.

The grants handed out to fire and ambulance districts across the state go toward the purchase of safety equipment, protective clothing, breathing apparatus and other needed tools.

In Pike County, the Hull-Kinderhook Fire Protection District and Pittsfield Fire Department get about $14,000 each, Pleasant Hill Fire Protection District gets $22,000 and the New Canton Fire Protection District gets $25,000.

The Brown County Fire Protection District, along with the fire protection districts in Clayton and Liberty in Adams County, each get grants of $26,000.
