The Board of Directors of Hannibal Regional Healthcare System is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Todd Ahrens to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, 2012.  Mr. Ahrens succeeds Mr. John Grossmeier who had previously announced his retirement after serving in this capacity since 1992.  As President, Mr. Ahrens will oversee all aspects of the Healthcare System which includes support and development of Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal Regional Medical Group and Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation.
Mr. Ahrens, a native of Hannibal, has been affiliated with Hannibal Regional Healthcare System since 2001.  He initially served in a governance role on the hospital and healthcare system Board of Directors, serving as Chairperson of the Board in 2005.  Mr. Ahrens resigned his position as Chair later that year to become the Healthcare System’s General Counsel, a position he has held since that time.  He has been actively involved with all aspects of the System’s operations while also remaining engaged in supporting community as well as statewide health initiatives and projects.

In announcing this appointment, Mr. Robert Gilstrap, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, stated, “The recruitment and selection of the next chief executive officer of the Healthcare System has been a serious responsibility of the Board of Directors.  The Search Committee considered many alternatives and without hesitation recommended Mr. Ahrens to the Board.  We look forward to working with Todd as he provides the leadership to continue our organization’s position in advancing the health of northeast Missouri and west central Illinois.”

Following his acceptance of the position, Mr. Ahrens stated that he was honored to be selected for this leadership opportunity.  “I am excited to have the privilege of continuing the tradition of Mr. Grossmeier and our healthcare team in doing those things necessary to meet the health needs of our community.  I look forward to working with our healthcare partners and the System’s leadership team as I transition into this new role.”

Mr. Ahrens is married, the father of three children and an active member of the Hannibal community.   Mr. Ahrens completed both his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Missouri and is an attorney admitted to the Missouri Bar.  He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Health Lawyers Association and serves on the Missouri Society of Healthcare Attorney’s Board of Directors.  Mr. Ahrens serves on various community Boards including the Salvation Army, United Way of the Mark Twain Area and Beth Haven.  He is a past President of the Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Hannibal.
