It will now be late October before the Quincy Memorial Bridge reopens to traffic.

Work crews have discovered that floor beams near the expansion joints at either end of the bridge have deteriorated to the point that they need to be replaced.

This will add another six to eight weeks to the time the bridge is closed.

The original project called for replacing expansion joints, along with replacement of concrete and structural steel.

The additional work will also add about $75,000 to the cost of the total project, raising the cost to $2.3 million dollars.
