Adams County Board Approves Purchase of Properties for New County Jail

The Adams County Board on Tuesday unanimously approved the purchase of four properties for a new county jail downtown.

The county is buying land at 300 and 314 South 6th, and at 607 and 615 Vermont.

The Vermont Street properties are being bought for $165,000 each. The purchase price of the 6th Street properties was not announced because of ongoing negotiations.

A contract was also awarded to provide demolition specifications and asbestos inspections on the buildings to be demolished on the newly acquired property.

Demolition is expected to be completed over the winter, with construction bids to be taken for a new Adams County Jail next spring.
