Adair County officials say a Kirksville man is charged in the stabbing death of a 52-year-old city employee during the weekend.

County Coroner Brian Noe on Monday identified the victim as Joseph Fees of Kirksville. Police say Fees was stabbed Thursday night at a Kirksville home and died later at a hospital.

Twenty-year-old Kayn Fry is jailed on first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.

The Kirksville Daily Express reports court documents indicate Fees was stabbed once in the chest before the suspect fled the home on foot.

Fees worked for Kirksville's Public Works Department at the Water Treatment Facility. He had worked for the city for 13 years.

Online court records don't show that Fry has an attorney.
