Officials of a southeastern Missouri animal shelter are describing as "heartless" the thieves who stole 250 gallons of dog food from their building.

KFVS-TV reports that last weekend's burglars of the Kennett Humane Department also made off with half of its cleaning supplies. along with several crates.

Representatives of the department call the crime "selfish" and say it affects homeless animals.

There was no immediate word Monday on any suspects, arrests or charges.
