A 16-year-old boy has died after being struck by a train while riding his bicycle in Pacific.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the boy died Wednesday night. According to Pacific Police Chief Matt Mansell, the engineer of a westbound Union Pacific train saw the boy approaching the tracks at North Olive Street and East St. Louis Street and sounded his horn, but the boy did not respond.

Mansell said it is unclear if the victim was crossing or playing on the tracks.

An investigation is ongoing.
